Welcome to my webpage! I'm Jenny - a mathematician from Ireland. I am a 3rd year PhD student at the University of Bath funded by the SAMBA Centre for Doctoral Training. My research interests lie in applied maths (particularly with applications to medical physics), partial differential equations, and numerical analysis. My PhD research focuses on PDE-constrained optimisation applied to radiotherapy trearment planning (you can read more about it here).
I graduated from the University of Limerick (Ireland) in 2020 with a BSc. in Mathematics and Physics. While at UL, I undertook an eight-month work placement at TNO Holst Centre (Eindhoven, Netherlands) where I worked on laser-printed nanotechnology. I was also awarded a 2018 Science and Engineering research bursary where I conducted a research project in the field of geometrical optics, and also worked in this area for my final year project.
Most recently, I competed in STEM for Britain, a major scientific poster competition that aims to help politicians understand more about the UK's thriving science and engineering base, and won the silver award in the mathematics category. I also was runner-up in the Smith Institute’s annual TakeAIM competition and was awarded the opportunity to present my research at the Science Museum in London.
I am also very passionate about science communication! I have a PhD Instagram account (@thejennypowerhour) where I document my PhD journey and try to demystify the experience by showcasing both the highs and lows of pursuing a PhD.
